PHOTOSHOP FOR COMICS TUTORIAL SERIES – INTRO
So, I’ve been using Photoshop for the purposes of creating comics for a few years now, and am somewhat disappointed at the relative dearth of resources – online or in print – on this topic.
Now, there ARE resources out there, perhaps the most notable being the DC Comics Guide to Digitally Drawing Comics, by Freddie Williams (and supplemental material on his website.) Deviantart also has a large collection of tutorials, though the huge majority focus on anime/manga stylistic applications. And other fora exist: Millarworld, Penciljack, Conceptart.org, to name a few. That said, I’ve found that most of my methods are the result of experimentation, and worth sharing.
I’m in the early stages of building a curriculum to cover – page templates/setup, perspective, brushes, integrating 3d, etc – so if there are any topics you’re interested in seeing explored, please feel free to mention in the comments section or by emailing me at dave.marquez@gmail.com.
So check back in soon for the first installment!
